As the school counselor, I interact with students, teachers, parents, and community members to facilitate a safe, caring environment for everyone. Either small group or individual counseling enhances a student’s personal and emotional growth. Assisting families in time of need to find resources provided by special programs, specialists, and community agencies links my job as school counselor to the world beyond Royall. Another aspect of my job is consulting with and training teachers, parents, and staff regarding children’s needs. Also, I am responsible for coordinating state and district standardized testing for our school. A student’s academic success is very important. I assume an advocate role in designing, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting educational plans for individual students who have been referred by either parents or teachers. Being a School of Promise requires me to chair our School of Promise Team, which continually assesses Royall’s successful commitment to our students. I enjoy coordinating activities for Pen Pals with Nursing Homes, Red Ribbon Week, the RIDDE program, Operation Christmas Child, the "One-on-One" lunch buddies program, and Royall Puppeteers. School-wide and grade level service projects are an integral part of Royall. Monitoring and helping meet the basic social, emotional, and academic needs of all Royall family members sums up the job as school counselor at Royall.
