The Royall School Media Center, located in its own building behind the main building, is a daily hubbub of activity. Containing a collection of more than 23,000 volumes, the media center provides reading material for all students. First Grade through Sixth Grade students have daily access to the library. Circulation averages 600 books per day. Kindergarten, First Grade and Special Education students enjoy a weekly story time with the media specialist. Other classes come in on a flexible schedule whenever they need to check out a new book. The media specialist is also the Reading Renaissance coordinator and she meets with teachers weekly to discuss Reading Renaissance strategies. In 2006-2007, Royall achieved Master School status with the Reading Renaissance program for the tenth straight year. Our Media Center also achieved Master Library status. Every classroom Teacher earned Model Classroom designation for the eighth straight year in 2006-2007. Every Kindergarten teacher achieved Model Classroom status and every teacher in 1st- 6th grade also achieved Master Classroom status. The media center is fully automated with Follett Destiny and has eight computers available for student use. The Internet, the computer card catalog, and various other networked programs may be used at these computer work stations. Royall students and staff take advantage of the DISCUS program offered by the S.C. State Library. The media center also houses a video collection, the television building distribution system, and three satellite receivers.
