Music

Mrs. Lyerly

The music program at Royall consists of general music classes, kindergarten through grade 6, an optional band program in grade 6, and the Royall Young Singers.  Our general music classes are taught following national, state, and local district music standards. The skills and concepts presented in general music classes help prepare the older students for their involvement in the optional performance groups.  In addition, each block of instruction in grades 1 – 6 includes a lesson on a famous “classical” composer. The Royall Young Singers is an auditioned choral group for students in grades 4 - 6. This group sings throughout the year at school functions and at various community events.  The Royall Beginning Band is open to any interested sixth-grade student.  The band is featured at Royall during the Christmas Sing-Along and at a concert in the spring.

One of the highlights of our school year is a dance unit team-taught by the music and physical education teachers. The students in grades K-4 learn basic square dance steps and often more complicated dances such as the Virginia Reel. Our 5th and 6th grade students learn how to Swing Dance, do a Texas Two-Step and Shuffle, and participate in some of the line dancing popular today, such as the Electric Slide.

As you can see, music is "alive and well" at Royall Elementary!
