Sixth grade is a very important year as students will be experiencing intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. Part of this growth will include self-control, responsibility, dependability, and organizational skills. In addition to improving skills as independent readers and thinkers, the Reading/Language Arts curriculum emphasizes speaking, listening, writing, and research. These skills are integrated into a Social Studies curriculum, which helps students form the ideas, values, and habits necessary to become good citizens in a democracy through the study of the world from the past to the present.

The Science curriculum includes many hands-on experiences in exploring four areas of study. These areas are matter and energy, the cell, the universe, and biodiversity.

Math skills for sixth grade include higher operations of multiplication, division, percents, fractions, and measurement. Students learn computation, probability, numeration, and problem solving strategies.

Significant progress in all of these areas will prepare students for success as they enter seventh grade. The goal of our teachers is to help students to become confident, independent, honest, respectful, and responsible learners for years to come.
