Due to the uniqueness of each individual, various approaches to effective teaching are implemented to facilitate learning.  Innovative techniques are utilized to insure a feeling of self identity and the satisfaction of achievement.

Our school promotes a desire to continue learning, helps students build a general background of knowledge, and encourages them to exercise their initiative in making decisions.  Through individual as well as cooperative efforts, they learn to carry tasks to completion, and to evaluate the outcomes of their efforts.  When they become adults they will be expected to accept change and adapt to new situations.  The purpose of the school and its curriculum is to help them to achieve these goals.

The Legend Of Buster

The story is when Briggs  was a brand new school, students arriving for the very first day were greeted at the front door by a most friendly bulldog who wore a green collar. No one knows from where he came, but he seemed to adopt this school as his very own; even though he had many from which to choose. He guarded both the school and its students. He recognized each of the students with a friendly wag of the tail and sometimes even a lick on the hand. When the school was named "Briggs", its guardian got a name too- "Buster". Students entering the school began to pet Buster for reassurance, and good luck, on that test they were about to take! Before long, whenever anyone drew Buster, they used the color green like his collar.

Even though Buster has moved along, you can still see him on the shirts of many Briggs students every Friday. Thus, his spirit and tenacity live on in each student who  attends and graduates from Briggs.

You can still pet his green statue at the entrance of the school each day before you go in, just like in the old days. We are lucky that Buster chose us, and became our mascot. We now call him our very own!

BRIGGS ALMA MATER

Words by: Mrs. Mary Lynn van Witzenburg
To the tune of "America the Beautiful", Created 1987.

O Briggs we sing to honor you
Our hearts are filled with pride.
You help us all to grow and learn
Life’s choices to decide.
Instill in us the knowledge
That will guide us on our way.
We pledge to you our very best
Today and for always

BRIGGS SPIRIT SONG

Words by: Mrs. Lynn Perkins
To the tune of "Take me Out to the Ball Game", Created 1990.

Briggs we love you forever,
Briggs you are number one-
Bulldogs will work till the very end
Our kids you can always depend on.
At Briggs we wear green and white,
With pride our colors do shine
For it’s one—two—three cheers for Briggs
You're our favorite school.
