APT COMMITTEES
Reading Volunteers:
The
most important committee! Volunteers listen to selected students read for 30 - 60
minutes each week, assisting these students in meeting their weekly reading goals. This
one-on-one attention often enhances interest in reading and increases self-confidence.
Room Parents: This
committee supports special events that pertain to the classrooms. Examples are helping
with field days, arranging for room treats, winter break party, securing chaperones for
field trips, and other classroom functions.
Skating:
This
committee provides the coordination, and assures the safety of the children during the
drop off and pick up times on skating night. This activity is fun
for the entire family.
Yearbook:
A committee of students, teachers, and
volunteers produce a yearbook each year featuring student and class
photographs. Advertisement space is available. Contact the APT
for more information on purchasing ad space.
Membership: This
committee coordinates and supplies the persons to register members during the beginning of
the school year and perform give-a-ways associated with membership registration. This
committee runs the mail in registration for the APT, and processes the surveys that are
conducted of its members . They are also responsible for collecting attendance at
APT
meetings.
Spruce up and Planting:
Spruce up and Planting: This committee works to enhance the school grounds. This entails putting
straw in the flower beds, trash collection, minor repairs, small plantings and the
coordination of some larger tree and shrub plantings. Members provide the labor to
accomplish this twice a year.
New Kids on the Block: This committee strives to make new students and their parents more
comfortable with activities at Briggs. Buddies are assigned to each new student to help
with the transition to the new school.
Hospitality:
This is the
catering arm of the APT It serves mainly the students but some meals for employees and
volunteers are also arranged. This committee works within a budget set by the executive
committee and also solicits donations to provide parties, celebrations and dances, thus
minimizing the use of APT funds.
