Character Education
As our nation moves into the 21st century local educators have seen the need to include character education in our school's curriculum. Our school's goal is to create a school-wide character education program that involves students, teachers, administrators, school-wide staff, parents, community leaders, civic leaders, and religious leaders. We have created numerous successful activities designed to promote character-building in our school community.
Character Building Activities
Character Counts Program - A program where teachers distribute coupons to those who are "caught" displaying good character. Names of those students are read daily over the school's intercom system and students are awarded "Character Counts" stickers to be worn at school on the following day.
Bullying Prevention Program - Teachers present and implement anti-bullying strategies in their classrooms. Students recite the SAFE Schools Pledge daily: "I promise to be SAFE and respectful to everyone and help our school remain bully-free."
Second Step Curriculum - This program teaches skills that can help all children get along with other people and do better in school.
Core Essentials Character Word of the Month - This program sponsored by Chick-Fil-A emphasizes a different character word each month. Each teacher displays the word of the month above their doorways and they discuss the meanings of the word for that month.

Carver's School Pledge - Students recite the school pledge daily. The pledge states,
| "I will act in such a way that I will be proud
of myself and others will be proud of me too. I came to school to learn, and I will
learn. I will have a great day."

Carver's Alma Mater - It is to the tune of "Morning Has Broken."
| It is with pride and true devotion,
we lift our voices in honor and praise.
Filling our lives with truth and knowledge, Carver Elementary, we sing to thee.

Celebrity Student - Each teacher recognizes a student by displaying a photograph and a short write up about that student.
Carver honors "Terrific Kids" and "PrinciPALS" each month. Terrific Kids rewards students for good behavior and academic success. The PrinciPALS program recognizes students who exemplify good character but don't quite meet the academic standards.
Service Projects - Each class participates in some type of service project during the school year, whether it is collecting items for the Humane society, canned goods for the local food pantry, or other projects decided on by a class or as a school-wide project.
Guidance Lessons - Our guidance counselor teaches character lessons to the students when she visits their classrooms. The guidance counselor also coordinates the Second Step lessons that promote good character.
