ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS 2008-2009
General
All students are expected to:
· Behave appropriately at all times with or without staff present. This includes when a child is traveling to and from school, on a school bus or van, and when attending school sponsored events.
Restroom Expectations
All students are expected to:
· Obtain permission before leaving to go to the restroom (exceptions will be made at the building level).
· Walk to the restroom quietly and quickly.
· Flush the toilet, wash hands, and turn off water from the sink.
· Return directly to his/her classroom or designated area.
· Dispose of trash in the proper container.

Cafeteria Expectations (Breakfast and Lunch)
All students are expected to:
· Enter the cafeteria quietly and orderly.
· Begin breakfast and lunch silently.
· Stay seated.
· Clean personal eating area.
· Use good table manners at all times.
· Keep food in the cafeteria (exceptions will be made at the building level).
· Purchase items while going through the lunch line (exceptions will be made at the building level).
Hallway Expectations
All students are expected to:
· Remain quiet, unless spoken to by an adult.
· Walk in a straight line facing forward with students.
· Follow directions given by staff.
Fire Drill Expectations
All students are expected to:
· Walk quietly in line and remain quiet while outside
· Return to your classrooms quietly and in line.
Playground Expectations
All students are expected to:
· Follow directions given by staff.
· Use equipment in the manner in which it was designed.
· Play only in designated areas.
· Play in a safe and cooperative manner at all times.
· Take turns on the equipment.
· Speak with staff member on duty, if there is a problem.
· Return equipment to the appropriate place.
·
Keep the grounds free of litter.
Media Center Expectations
All students are expected to
· Wear media center passes when visiting the media center.
· Follow proper hallway procedures while walking from their classrooms to the media center.
· Respect the rights of others who are using the media center.
· Bring Reading Renaissance logs when selecting books for that purpose.
· Remain silent while waiting in line.
· Check out no more than two books at a time. Kindergarten students may check out only one book at a time (exceptions will be made at the building level).
· Renew books within one week unless prior approval has been given.

Student Dress Code Expectations
· Wear shoes with laces tied at all times. (PE and other approved activities may be the exception)
· Short-shorts, halter tops or short tops, which do not cover the stomach, are not permitted.
· The length of shorts and skirts will be appropriate for school if the length is longer than arm length (exceptions will be made at the building level).
· Straps on overalls must be fastened and worn on the shoulder in the appropriate manner.
· Pants and shorts must be worn with the waist of the pants around the waist of the student (not below the hips).
· Clothing with obscene, suggestive sayings, or advertisements for alcoholic beverages written on them will not be allowed.
· Hats, headbands and other head gear will not be worn inside the building except on specifically designated days.
· Parents of students whose dress is deemed, in the opinion of the principal or an administrative staff member, to be inappropriate or distracting will be notified. If necessary, parents may be asked to pick their child up from school.
