After-School Study Center - Attendance Recovery Policy
After-School Study Center
Schedule
The purpose
of the after-school study center is to provide a mechanism to allow students
to make up excessive absences and/or as a point of coordination for
attendance credit recovery. Attendance in the after school study center is
voluntary.
-
Students must provide
their own transportation home.
-
The after school study
center will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:45 until
4:45.
-
Students can make up 3
hours per week (180 minutes) by staying Tuesday through Thursday for 60
minutes per day.
-
Each day (60 minutes)
will count as a make-up day for 1 class period.
-
Students are required
to attend the full 60-minute session. If they leave before the teacher
dismisses for the day, their time will not count.
-
As students sign in,
they must list the period and subject for which they are making up time.
-
During the course of
the year, students can make up as many as 4 (four) periods in each of
their classes (Carnegie unit bearing classes at the high school).
-
If students make up
periods and then fail the class, the principal may apply those days to
another class in which the students need make-up time.
-
The make-up days would
NOT be applicable for meeting exam exemption requirements. Make-up days
would be for preventing loss of credit only.
-
Students are required
to do productive work in the study center (homework, read a book, take
make-up tests, etc.) Students will not be allowed to sleep or sit
unproductively. If a student becomes disruptive or fails to follow
rules, that student will be dismissed from the study center. The results
of the dismissal would be loss of that time, possible prohibition from
the after school study center, and possible discipline code
ramifications.
-
If students make up 4
periods in a class and still have excessive absences, they can THEN
appeal for credit. If the students appeal for credit in a class and have
not made all efforts to make up time, the appeal may be denied.
-
All first semester
days should be made up by February 1 of that school year.
-
If students need to go
to another teacher for make-up, tutorial help, or any academic pursuit,
such as credit recovery or freshman academy tutorial, they could sign in
at the study center with a pass from the teacher they need to go to.
Once they finish with their regular teacher, they could return to study
center (with a pass) to finish the time. After each study center, the
attendance roster would then be turned over to the attendance clerk (or
principal’s designee) for the make-up days to be entered into SASI
immediately. If students are trying to bank days, this would become
evident immediately.
