2006-07 Scholarship and Financial Aid Information

The South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program:

$24,000 over four years to become a South Carolina educator. Must be a senior, U.S. citizen and legal resident of South Carolina. Applications are on file in guidance.

 

Coca –Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship program:

Scholarships are $10,000 and $20,000. Go to www.coca-colascholars.org for additional information and to apply. Application deadline is October 31, 2006.

 

Ron Brown Scholar Program:

Must be a senior, U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, African American. Applications are available on line beginning September 1, 2006 at www.ronbrown.org. Early deadline is November 1, 2006. Applications by this date will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and forwarded to a select number of additional scholarship providers. January 9, 2007 is the final deadline. Applications by this date will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program only.

 

Horatio Alger Scholarship:

Scholarships range from $1000 to $20,000. Must be a senior with plans to enter a college in the U.S., have minimum GPA of 2.0, have a critical financial need, involved in co-curricular and community service activities. Students must submit an online application at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships by October 30, 2006.

 

SAE Engineering Scholarships:

Senior intending to earn a degree in engineering or a related science, U.S. citizen meets minimum requirements with regard to GPA, and SAT or ACT. Applications can be obtained at www.sae.org/students/engschir.htm. Application deadline is December 1, 2006.

National Association of Secondary School Principals Prudential Spirit of Community Service Awards:

Open to all grades. Scholarship is based on Community Service and Volunteerism. Applications are available in guidance and must complete and turned into guidance by October 31, 2006. Awards can amount to $6,000.

 

Outstanding Students of America:

Scholarships available for high school seniors. No fee associated with scholarships. Deadline in October 10, 2006. Go to www.outstandingstudentsofamerica.com.

North-South All-Star Game Queen Scholarship Contest:

Open to high school senior girls who plan to attend an institution of higher learning following graduation. Registration fee is $40. Applications are on file in guidance. Due date is November 14, 2006.

 

The National CO-OP Scholarship Program:

Senior with a 3.5 GPA or better

Must be accepted for the 2007-08 academic year to one of the eleven NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities listed on the application

Sam Walton Community Scholarship:

A non-renewable $1000 award for the student’s first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university.

Must be a senior

Can not be a Wal-Mart or SAM’s Club associate or the child or legal dependent of an associate

The James F. Byrnes Scholarship:

This $3,250 renewable scholarship is available to a senior that has lost one or both parents. The student must be a South Carolina resident and US Citizen, planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited 4-year college/university, have a satisfactory academic record, demonstrate excellence in character, and have a financial need.

Kittie M.Fairey Educational Fund:

Harry Hampton and Wallace F. Pate Scholarships:

Seniors who plan on majoring in the natural resources discipline such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science. The Hampton scholarship is $2,500 for four years and the Pate scholarship is $1,500 for one year. Students may apply for both but may receive only one of the two.

Fully paid scholarship to American high school students to spend a year in Germany. Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who have a 3.0 GPA and are between the ages of 15 and 181/2

Duke University Merit Scholarships

South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship:

Four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors planning to attend a college or university in South Carolina.

One $2,000 scholarship to a senior of a law enforcement officer and plans to attend a college or university in South Carolina.

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship:

JUNIORS Must have a 2.75 cumulative GPA for the 9th and 10th grades, demonstrate leadership, actively contributing to the community and have experienced and overcome a significant obstacle in life.

Ten $25,000 national scholarships and 300 $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.

2007 Washington Internship Experience:

 The program can be taken in three week or longer segments starting June 17 extending through July 28.

Robert C. Byrd Scholarship:

$1,500 scholarship per year for up to four years. Must be a senior with a 3.5 GPA, 1300 SAT (Math and Critical Reading) or 29 ACT, have applied to college, be a legal resident of SC and a US citizen or national with appropriate documentation. Only one application per 100 seniors may be submitted. Applications are available from Mrs. Lee in guidance and are due to Mr. Gamble by Friday, January, 12.

 

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship:

Students have the opportunity to compete in the areas of drama, creative writing, music and visual arts. Scholarships are approximately $4,000. Applications are available in guidance and are also available at http://ed.sc.gov/.

The South Carolina Education Association Retired/J.P. Coates/SCAT Scholarship:

A $1,000 renewable scholarship to a senior graduating from a South Carolina public high school planning to pursue a career in education. Must attend a fours year college or university in South Carolina. Applications are on file in guidance and must be postmarked by March 21, 2007.     

 

South Florence High School APTS Scholarships:

  1. Endeavor Scholarship
  2. Achievement Scholarship

 Both scholarships are for $1,000. The Endeavor scholarship will be awarded to a senior with a GPA or 3.1 or higher and takes into account extracurricular activities, community service, SAT/ACT scores, GPA and work experience.

The Achievement scholarship will be awarded to a senior that has overcome some personal activity. Extracurricular activities, community service, work experience will be considered. Additional information and applications are on file in guidance. Completed applications are due in guidance by February 14, 2007.

 

Elk National Foundation 2007 Most Valuable Student Scholarship:

500 four year awards ranging from $4,000 to $60,000. Applications are available I guidance. Deadline January 31, 2007

 

 

 

 

South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators:

Six $2,000 scholarships to qualifying seniors. Applicant must be eligible for free or reduced price lunch in South Carolina and must be able to meet the entrance requirements of an approved post secondary institution. Completed application packet must be sent to the Title I district coordinator by Thursday, February 1, 2007. Applications are on file in guidance.  

 

McKelvey Foundation:

Up to $10,000 per academic year for four years. Must be a graduating senior, attend a four year college or university, won and operate a genuine business. Apply on line at www.mckelveyfoundation.org by January 31, 2007. Additional information is on file in guidance.

 

2007 Business at Moore Program:

Summer program for June 16-22, 2007 on the University of South Carolina campus. All expense paid residency program designed to introduce minority students to the study of business related fields. PRISM: Claflin University

Six-week summer residential program to increase knowledge in science and math. Open to students from low-income, potential first generation college and in grade 9-11. Applications are on file in guidance. Due date March 1, 2007

 

Furman University Emerging Public Leaders:

Service-oriented leadership program open to rising high school seniors. The week-long summer program offers a series of experiences that enable students to become public leaders. The program is free of charge to selected participates. Apply on-line at www.rileyinstitute.org or contact the Institute at 846-294-3236. Applications are due by Friday, April 30, 2007.

 

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation:

Must be the son or daughter of a Marine on active duty, in the Reserve, retired or deceased or the son or daughter of a Marine or Marine Reservist who has recently received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge or who was killed while the service or our country or the son or daughter of an active duty, reserve, or former US Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served with the US Marine Corps.

Must be a senior and a family income of $65,000 or less (limit increases with siblings).

Scholarships range from $500 to $10,000.

Betty Ann Darby Scholarships:

Two $1,000 scholarships to Florence County graduating seniors who will pursue advanced academic or professional degrees in arts discipline or art education.

Applications are available in guidance and are due on or before Friday, March 30, 2007.  

 

NROTC Scholarships:

Four-year and two-year scholarship opportunities, full tuition plus stipend for text books. Go to www.nrotc.navy.mil/scholarships_application.cfm.

 

Pee Dee Electric Cooperative, Inc. WIRE Scholarship:

$1,000 scholarship to the college or university of student’s choice. Applying student must be the dependent of a member-owner of Pee Dee Electric. Applications are available in guidance and are due Wednesday, April 11, 2007.

 

Pee Dee Electric Cooperative, Inc. Washington Youth/Tour /Leadership Conference:

Current high school junior. All-expense paid trip that consists of visiting House and Senate members, touring the Capital and Smithsonian and learning about cooperatives and our government. Applications available in guidance and are due February 9, 2007.

 

Columbia College Lead:

Residential leadership summer camp for high school sophomore and junior girls held on the Columbia College campus, July 15-21, 2007. Tuition $600.  Interested students may receive additional information and sign up in guidance by March 1, 2007.

 

University of Tennessee-Knoxville Nuclear Engineering Scholarships:

The Junior Statesman Summer Program:

Summer program on the campuses of Georgetown, Princeton, Yale and Stanford to students interested in discussing and debating issues. Additional information on file in guidance.

 

South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators CERRA scholarships:

 $1,000 renewable scholarship to a senior planning to teach.  Applications are on file in guidance or may be requested at www.scabse.com or at www.cerra.org.

Due date is April 1, 2007.  

 

South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics Summer Program:

Applications area available online at www.scgssm.org. Programs are for rising 9th and 10th graders and include Genetics, Marine Biology, Robotics, Physics, Chemistry and 3-D Video Creation.

 

Clemson University & BB&T 2007 Economics Summer Camp:

Juniors, all expense paid program covering real world topics in economics. Application information in available in guidance or go to http://www.buisness.clemson.edu/bbtcenter.

Application deadline  is March 23, 2007.

 

South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports Educator’s:

$500 scholarship to an enrolling female college freshman planning to major in education.

Applications are on file in guidance and are due back to guidance by March 23, 2007.

 

South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports and Trophies by “M” Scholarship:

$1000 scholarship to an enrolling female college freshman planning to major in the medical field. Applications are on file in guidance are due back to guidance by March 23, 2007.

 

Donate Life SC Scholarships:

 

DLSC Scholarship: $2500 scholarship to a student planning to pursue a career related to organ and tissue donation, including careers in medicine, nursing, social work, or other related fields.

Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence F. McManus Scholarship: $2500 scholarship to students who are living donors, transplant recipients, immediate family members of a donor or recipient, or active volunteers with DLSC.

Educational Communications Scholarship:

Recognizes exemplary students. Applications on file in guidance or go to www.whoswho-highschool.com or www.ecisf.org. Deadline May 15, 2007.

Joey Rodgers Scholarship:

Scholarship given to a high school senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Student must be actively involved as a community service volunteer or must be pursuing a degree in criminal justice. Applications are on file in guidance and are due to the foundation by the first Friday in April.

Gary Lowder, Jr. Memorial Scholarship:

$1,200 scholarship offered by the parents of Gary Lowder, Jr. in his memory to a senior male who has played football for at least two years including the senior year or who has played in the band for at least two years including the senior year.

The student must have a3.25 on a 4.0 scale and a score of 1100 (Critical Reading / Math) or a 24 ACT. Applications are on file in guidance and must be returned to Mr. Gamble in guidance by March 30, 2007.

 

Erskine College Flying Fleet Athletic Training Camp:

Learning experience for beginning athletic training. Topics explored include spine boarding, ankle taping, CPR, foot taping, splinting and others. Cost for overnight $300. Call Jim Riser at 864-379-8999 or email at riser@erskine.edu.

Mentoring and Enrichment Seminar in Engineering:

South Carolina State Fair Scholarship:

Fifty (50) selected seniors will be awarded $2,000 scholarships to be applied to post secondary high school education or training in a South Carolina university, college, or technical school. Applicants will be judged on overall performance and involvement, need, communications skills and an aptitude for completion of application. Applications are on file in guidance. Applications must be received by the Fair office by 4:30 pm Wednesday, March 21, 2007.

The American Architectural Foundation and Target – Redesign Your School: A Contest of Scholarly Proportion

Open to students grades 9 – 12. This is a national contest that asks students to submit their vision of ideal places to learn in the 21st century. Scholarships up to $10,000 and Target GiftCards will be presented to winners, eight will be invited to Washington, D.C. Deadline for entry is June 30, 2007. A registration form and other rules, instructions and resources area available online at www.redsignyourschool.org.

 

Congressional Black Caucus Scholarship Fund Program:

Program provides financial assistance to help defray the expense of college. Must have a 2.5 / 4.0, demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership, particularly in community service activities, and demonstrate financial need. Applications are on file in guidance.
