It is called the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA). It was developed in cooperation with our business leaders with the intent to help provide our students with education, support, and knowledge as they prepare for life after high school. Often our students lack having a realistic long term view of work and their place in the world, In order to bridge the gap, we are offering a new elective course entitled “An Introduction to Careers” for all eighth grade students. During this nine weeks course we will be introducing the state’s sixteen career clusters to our students. Another very important part of this course and the legislation of the EEDA is the development of an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP). During the next nine weeks, your child will be meeting with our Career Development Facilitators and Guidance Counselors to discuss career interest and choices. It will be our goal as classroom teachers, Career Development Facilitators and Guidance Counselors to help your child understand how interest and academic choices in high school are the building blocks for their future. As with any good plan, there are often many changes, challenges and obstacles. With your involvement, as required by law, we can provide students with a stronger basis from which to make future educational, career and job decisions.
