Southside has a computer labs. The labs are equipped with 25 and 30 student computers and a networked laser printer. The labs are designed to assist teachers in integrating technology into their lessons. Students are given the opportunity to create PowerPoint presentations, do Internet research, web quests, and writing assignments. The labs have Microsoft Office 2003 and full Internet capability along with many other software titles that enhance reading, writing, math, science, social studies and music. In addition to assisting teachers with technology integration, we will also administer MAP tests for language arts and math classes as well as 8th grade science. This is an online test that allows teachers to see what students are not mastering. For more information on the MAP test, you may visit http://www.nwea.org. In addition to the computer lab, Southside has purchased LCD projectors for all core subject teachers and most elective teachers have access to this technology. This allows classroom teachers to bring technology into individual rooms without having to come to the lab. Teachers can use the projectors to view streaming videos and PowerPoint presentations. We have also received SMART Boards and Air Liners for teachers to use in their classrooms. Students using computers in the district must have a signed Acceptable User Policy on file with the lab manager. Students must be wearing their school ID, and it must remain visible at all times.
