Personal Pathways to Success

A Message from the Superintendent about Personal Pathways to Success Benchmarks for Students with the Education and Economic Development Act Education and Economic Development Act
Dear Parent,

On May 27, 2005, new legislation was passed entitled the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA). This act is designed to give students the educational tools they need to have a successful future. This EEDA Act is now partnered with an initiative entitled "Personal Pathways to Success."

With the globalization of the economy and advances in technology, we are finding that our students are behind in skills critical for their success in the working world. We are partnering wit the business community through the Florence Education and Business Alliance to provide more career opportunities for our students and to make our education system a seamless one from school through post secondary education and on to the working world.

It is not only a partnership of schools and businesses, but also of schools, students, and parents. It is our desire to provide this informational brochure to you as a starting point for that collaboration. I urge you to partner with us to make your child's future a bright one.

Respectfully,

Larry Jackson, Superintendent

Florence School District One

Elementary School

Career Awareness is the focus of the elementary schools. Grades 1-5 students learn why school and work are important; they also learn about differneces between jobs, the process of a good workker, and career clusters in their community. In grade 6, students complete a career interest inventory and participate in career awareness and exploration.

Middle School

At the middle school level, the students are in the "career exploration" phase. They have a nine week course entitled "Careers" that shows all of the sixteen career clusters and jobs aligned to those clusters. Each student will also fill out their first Individual Graduation Plan in the 8th grade, with a parent consultation.

High School

Individual Graduation Plans are reviewed and updated each year. The student selects a major and explores postsecondary education opportunities. The students also have an opportunity to job shadow.
