A Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Your child's health is important to us.  We are increasing our efforts to help our students develop healthy lifestyles that may prevent future health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.  This year we are implementing programs to help students begin building healthy lifestyles by encouraging good nutrition and physical exercise.

We are limiting the number of sweet snacks and treats that students get at school.  We will offer more nutritious foods and provide treats other than food for incentives and rewards.  Students will learn about daily nutrition requirements and learn to choose foods that will meet those requirements.

We will begin a walking program at school after Labor Day.  We will log the miles we walk, then calculate how far "around the world" we can go.  We encourage you to walk with your child.  The miles you walk with them will count towards their miles walked and be added to the school's total.

We have a clay walking track on our playground provided by Florence County Recreation Department.  We invite you to use the track any time you wish.  We hope walking will become a favorite pastime for our entire community.

We will continue to encourage children to practice healthy habits and build healthy lifestyles.  Your reinforcement of good health practices and good modeling will help ensure a healthy life for your child.
