S. Porter Stewart has served on the Florence School District One Board of Trustees since 1995, and is currently the Chairman. The voters re-elected him in November to serve his eighth term.
He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the USC School of Law. Mr. Stewart is a member of the McGowan Law firm, and is a recipient of the prestigious Ralph King Anderson, Jr. Award. This award is given annually to a member of the Florence County Bar who has, over a significant period of time, contributed to not only the character and quality of the legal profession, but also to the community he serves. He and his wife Connie are the parents of two adult daughters, and they have two grandchildren. Mr. Stewart is a member of the Florence West Rotary Club.
Barry Townsend was born and raised in Florence. After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in graphic design, he spent nearly 20 years as a design director in the advertising and design industry. Barry and his family returned to his hometown of Florence in 2007, where he is the co-owner of Old Delmae Neighborhood Grill. Mr. Townsend and his wife Christine have children attending Florence One schools. He was elected to the Florence One Board of Trustees as the representative of District 1 in 2012, and this past November, he was elected to serve another term. This past year he chaired the Discipline Code Committee, where he worked to implement Florence One’s new Code of Conduct.
Trisha C. Caulder is a recipient of South Carolina’s highest award, the Order of the Palmetto. In 2013, Mrs. Caulder was appointed a member of the Board of Trustees, and was later elected to serve on the Board. From 1991 until 2004, she served as Florence One’s Director of Adult Education, receiving the recognition of having the auditorium housed in the Poynor Building named in her honor. Her career spans several decades---beginning with teaching and continuing through adult education positions held in various areas throughout the state. Mrs. Caulder received both the Bachelor of Arts (Secondary Education) and Master of Arts (Adult and Community Education) degrees from the University of South Carolina. Civically, she is a member of the Florence Rotary Club, The School Foundation Executive Board, the South Carolina School Boards Association, and Florence’s Downtown Redevelopment Committee. She and her husband James (Retired Colonel, South Carolina Highway Patrol), are the parents of three adult daughters and they have nine grandchildren.
