M. Glenn OdomM. Glenn Odom has served on the Florence One Board of Trustees for the past 25 years. The Florence native is a graduate of McClenaghan High School and is a 1977 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.  He has been practicing law in Florence since 1978 and became an associate at the McGowan Rogers Law Firm in 2014.   As a school board member, Odom serves as a champion of early childhood education.  Also, as a member of the South Carolina School Boards Association, Glenn Odom was nominated to serve as the Representative for Region Five of the SCSBA.

He and his wife Rachel have two adult daughters and four grandchildren.

 

 

E. J. McIverRev. E. J. McIver has served as a member of the Florence One Board of Trustees since 2010. He is a graduate of Wilson High School and South Carolina State University.  He also received a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Cambridge University in Boston. He has also studied at the University of South Carolina, the College of Charleston, Duke University, Clemson University, Francis Marion University and Lutheran Theological Seminary.  He began his career in education as a teacher and has served as the Executive Director of the Boys Club for the City of Florence as well as the Executive Secretary of the Boys Club of America for North and South Carolina.  In addition, he has served as a City Councilman for the City of Florence as well as Chairman of the Democratic Party for the city.  He is dedicated to learning, is an inspirational/motivational speaker, and a teacher who is skillful in the art of storytelling.

 

 

Elder Alexis D. PipkinsElder Alexis D. Pipkins, Sr. is one of a few board members in the state who have reached the highest recognition in the South Carolina School Boards Association’s Boardmanship Institute, Level 6. To qualify, each board member must earn 300 points for attending training sessions over the past five years or less and pass a written exam. He is a former school board chairman and former Florence One educator. He serves as the Executive Director of Lee County First Steps. Alexis Pipkins has served on the Florence One School Board since 2001.  He is the newly elected Vice-President of the South Carolina Caucus of Black School Board Members, and will assume this role at the SCSBA Annual Convention which will convene in February 2014. Also, he is an advocate for children and families, and has previously received the SC Head Start Humanitarian Award. He and his wife LaDonna have four children.

Rev. Bryan ChapmanRev. Bryan Chapman is the Senior Pastor of Pee Dee Community Fellowship.  He completed Hartsville High School before attending the University of South Carolina where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  He went on to receive both a Masters of Divinity and Masters of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where he met his beautiful wife, Mrs. Kim Chapman.  Bryan and Kim are the parents of Brittany and Ben Chapman, as well as to Kyle and Cameron Horne whom they assumed custody of in 2010.  Pastor Bryan is most known in our community for his Father Heart.  He freely opens his home to children throughout the week and has allowed many to consider it their home over the years.  He devoted nine years as the Lead Teacher of the Christian Learning Center, which provides Biblical teaching to students during the school day.

 

 

John D GallowayJohn D. Galloway retired from teaching Law Enforcement Services at the Florence Career Center on June 30th of this past year.  Prior to teaching at the Career Center, he worked for the Florence County Sheriff’s Office for several years. He is a retired U.S. Navy veteran who completed his associate degree in Business Law while afloat on various navy ships.  Having recently been elected to the Florence One Board of Trustees, (November 2016) he is eager to begin serving and to ensure that Florence One students continue to receive the best education possible.  John has two grandchildren and one great grandchild currently enrolled in Florence One schools.  He is married to the former Geneva Thomas of Florence, and they attend Central Missionary Baptist Church.  He is also a member of various military organizations.

 

 

 

 

John W. "Will" McLeod has served on the school board since 2010. Will is a former Florence One student, and he has two daughters who attend Florence One schools. Will received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Francis Marion University and his Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he finished at the top of his class. Will is a Member of Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church and is active in the community where he serves as a recreational team coach.

S. Porter StewartS. Porter Stewart has served on the Florence School District One Board of Trustees since 1995, and is currently the Chairman.  The voters re-elected him in November to serve his eighth term.

He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the USC School of Law.   Mr. Stewart is a member of the McGowan Law firm, and is a recipient of the prestigious Ralph King Anderson, Jr. Award.  This award is given annually to a member of the Florence County Bar who has, over a significant period of time, contributed to not only the character and quality of the legal profession, but also to the community he serves.  He and his wife Connie are the parents of two adult daughters, and they have two grandchildren.  Mr. Stewart is a member of the Florence West Rotary Club.

 

 

Barry TownsendBarry Townsend was born and raised in Florence.  After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in graphic design, he spent nearly 20 years as a design director in the advertising and design industry.  Barry and his family returned to his hometown of Florence in 2007, where he is the co-owner of Old Delmae Neighborhood Grill.  Mr. Townsend and his wife Christine have children attending Florence One schools.   He was elected to the Florence One Board of Trustees as the representative of District 1 in 2012, and this past November, he was elected to serve another term. This past year he chaired the Discipline Code Committee, where he worked to implement Florence One’s new Code of Conduct.

 

 

Trisha C. CaulderTrisha C. Caulder is a recipient of South Carolina’s highest award, the Order of the Palmetto.  In 2013, Mrs. Caulder was appointed a member of the Board of Trustees, and was later elected to serve on the Board.  From 1991 until 2004, she served as Florence One’s Director of Adult Education, receiving the recognition of having the auditorium housed in the Poynor Building named in her honor.  Her career spans several decades---beginning with teaching and continuing through adult education positions held in various areas throughout the state.  Mrs. Caulder received both the Bachelor of Arts (Secondary Education) and Master of Arts (Adult and Community Education) degrees from the University of South Carolina.  Civically, she is a member of the Florence Rotary Club, The School Foundation Executive Board, the South Carolina School Boards Association, and Florence’s Downtown Redevelopment Committee.  She and her husband James (Retired Colonel, South Carolina Highway Patrol), are the parents of three adult daughters and they have nine grandchildren.
