District One's Musically Exceptional (DOME)
District One’s Musically Exceptional (DOME) is designed as an afterschool and summer program for students identified as Musically Gifted and Talented for 7th -12th grade students. During the school year DOME offers seminars in many areas of music and music related subjects. DOME sponsors events including “DOME Open Mic Night”, FSD1 Young Artist Solo competition, All-City music events, Magnolia Mall Music in our Schools concerts, District One’s Vocal Star and class instruction labs in piano and guitar.
Financial support is offered to DOME students in the form of scholarships for private music lessons and summer camps every spring. Tickets for musical events in the community is a very popular part of the program. Summer brings the annual DOME Day Camp featuring Artist-in-Residence visits, music composition instruction, world music drumming and instruction in each area of student’s specific talents.
The DOME program began in 1988 and has continued since that time under the leadership of Laura Greenway. The DOME staff consists of all middle and high school music teachers from FSD1 and several retired music teachers. These dedicated teachers offer FSD1 students guidance and personal enrichment contact throughout the year.
