• Welcome to the Freshman Academy Program at Wilson High. Our FOCUS is “In the door out in four!” As an educator, I am committed to your child’s academic, emotional and social development. I believe that the 9th-grade year is the most important year of your child’s high school career as it lays the foundation and sets a guide for their future here at Wilson High School. It is our goal to make this transition as smooth as possible by giving your child all the tools and resources necessary for them to be successful. I am an advocate in providing all students with the opportunity to be unique and creative. I believe that every child CAN learn through effective instruction. I believe that children need constant support and guidance and their welfare should be our focus. I believe our students and teachers should be valued, respected, nurtured and supported. I believe in honesty, effective communication and respecting others to gain the same respect. I will have high expectations for our students and teachers as we strive this year for success.

  •  What is the School of Foundational Studies?

    The School of Foundational Studies provides a rigorous comprehensive College Preparatory curriculum for first-time, ninth graders. It is designed to help ease the transition from middle school to high school. The program is formatted to provide smaller class sizes, which are student-centered and technology infused. Students receive more individualized attention preparing them for the demands of the high school experience. SOFS presently serves approximately 190 first time ninth graders. The SOFS staff understands that there is a direct link between student growth and parental involvement.

  • What is the Middle Years Program? 

    The Middle Years Program (MYP) is an educational framework that requires students to study in eight subjects (English, foreign language, social studies, science, math, arts, physical education, and technology) in each of the five years the program lasts. Teachers present their curriculum through the MYP’s instructional strategies known as the Areas of Interaction. The model embodies three fundamental concepts: communication (valuing language acquisition in at least two languages); holistic learning (finding the connections across and within the subjects and grade levels); and international mindedness (a growing understanding of a student’s own culture coupled with an understanding and appreciation of other cultures).
