    SAT/ACT:  Let's Ace It!  Workshops at South Florence High School.  Want to increase your ACT/SAT score or need a few more points for a scholarship?  Beginning the week of January 16, you can attend FREE ACT/SAT prep sessions offered by South Florence on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-4:45pm.  These prep sessions will continue until February 22, 2018.  Each day will have a different location and focus:

    • Tuesdays:  Science with Mrs Junkins in room 231
    • Wednesdays:  Math with Mrs. Young in room 103
    • Thursdays:  Reading and Writing with Ms. Nero in room 118

    The more sessions you attend, the more your score can improve.

    South Florence High School will host an SAT/ACT Workshop on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 8:30 am- 3:30 pm with "All in Test Prep".  The workshop includes helpful tips and strategies for all sections of the SAT/ACT exam.  The cost of the workshop is $50 and space is limited to fifty-students. Students may sign up and pay in the main office. For any additional questions, please see the Guidance department.

    Wilson High School is inviting South Florence seniors to attend the 1st Annual HBCU Day at Wilson on February 15.  This day will include an opportunity to meet with the admissions officers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.  Seniors interested will be able to interview, apply and be accepted.  If you are interested in attending this event, please sign up in the guidance office and receive a parent permission form by Friday, February 9th.  You must provide your own transportation.

    Interview Nights from 5:30pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, November 28, Wednesday, November 29 and Thursday, November 30 at Florence- Darlington Technical College.  This event is held to give Seniors an opportunity to meet with South Carolina college and university admissions representatives and receive potential admission and scholarship information.  Click here for details.  Information flyers are also on the counter in the Guidance Office.

    College Application Day for South Florence Seniors will be held on October 24th from 8:30 AM- 3:30 PM.  Seniors may sign up in guidance for a specific time to receive help completing an application.  Various college representatives will be in attendance.  Seniors, check your exam schedules before signing up for a specific time.  Participation in this event does NOT provide an excuse for missing an exam.

    SAT/ACT Prep Sessions starting on Saturday, October 21, 2017.  These sessions are sponsored by Girls University in Florence, SC.  For more information and to register, please visit https://girls-university.com/sat-act-prep/.  

    Junior/Senior Parent Information Night on October 12 starting at 6:00pm in the South Florence Library.  Topics to be discussed include applying to college, SAT/ACT, scholarships and financial aid.  Representatives from Francis Marion University and Florence Darlington Technical College will be in attendance.  Click here for a copy of the powerpoint presentation. 

    Florence Darlington Technical College is hosting a Career Expo Day on October 5, 2017.  Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 are invited to attend. The Career Expo will highlight programs of study at FDTC and the careers associated with those programs.  Space is limited to only 40 students!  Permission slips are available in Guidance from Mr. Dupree or Mrs. McBride.  The first forty students who turn in signed permission slips and have no OSS this school year will be eligible to attend.  Signed permission slips are due no later than Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

    Be note the change below for the Francis Marion Interview Day.  If you signed up for the first date, we will honor your request.  If you did not sign up, you may still do so in Guidance until the deadline of Thursday, September 21, 2017.

    Francis Marion will host an Interview Day at South Florence High School on Monday, September 25, 2017.  Interested seniors must sign up in Guidance for a specific time.  In order to interview with an FMU admissions counselor, seniors need to complete the following:

    • Apply to FMU online at http://www.fmarion.edu/admissions/applynow/ prior to your interview.  Application fee will be waived.  Do not submit fee.
    • If you have taken the SAT and/or ACT, please bring a copy of your score sheet with you.  You will find the score sheet by signing into your SAT/ACT account.  If we have a copy of your ACT test results from last spring, we will provide a copy for your interview.

    Please dress appropriately and be on time to your interview in room 113.  Teachers will receive an email with the interview schedule for the day.  Feel free to contact Mrs. McBride or Mr. Dupree with any questions or concerns.  Deadline for signing-up is Thursday, September 21, 2017.

    An SAT/ACT workshop will be held by College Prep on Thursday, September 21, 2017.  The workshop will last all day in Lab 219.  Any student planning to take the SAT or ACT may be interested in registering. The cost is $40.00 and can be paid in the main office.  Spaces are limited.  Last day to register is September 19, 2017.

    Seniors interested in attending the SC College Fair at Francis Marion University on Tuesday, August 29 must return a signed permission form to Mrs. McBride in Guidance no later than 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 24.  This is an opportunity for seniors to meet with various college, university, and military representatives.  To be eligible to attend, students must be graduating seniors, have a 2.0 GPA, and have no OSS this school year.  Space is limited, so please obtain a permission form from Mrs. McBride or Mr. Dupree in Guidance as soon as possible.  Feel free to contact us with any questions.

    Francis Marion University's Patriot College announces course offering for Fall 2017.  The following courses will be offered to rising juniors and seniors who are 16 years or older and have a 3.0 or greater GPA:

    • ART 101, Introduction to Art (3).  Online. Patterns of perception and understanding are established through analysis of major works or painting, sculpture, and architecture in a historical survey.  The class format includes a liveral use of slides and occasional films.
    • MATH 134, Probability and Statistics (3).  10:40-11:55 T/Th.  Basics of probability, including counting, tree diagrams, conditional probability, binomial and normal distributions, mean, variance, standard diviation and expected value.  Students must have completed Aligebra I and II, Geometry and Precalculus in order to enroll in this course.

    • FDTC Dual Credit Registration Re-Opens.
        • Students planning to take summer or fall 2017 dual credit classes with Florence Darlington Technical College may sign up for a time to meet with a college representative and register for classes. The college will be at South Florence on April 25th from 10:00am - 2:00pm in room 113. Please select a first and second choice of times. Efforts will be make to schedule for your request but if not available the time nearest your request will be assigned. You must have SAT, ACT or AACUPLACER scores and complete an application for admission to Florence Darlington Technical College for the General Studies Certificate Program.
