Dr. Lurma Swinney is a native of Florence, SC. Her passion is writing. She has published three novels and assisted The Wilson High School Literary Club into publishing two novels. She is a graduate of Wilson High School. She is now a part-time science teacher at Alfred Rush Academy and serves as the Curriculum Coordinator. Dr. Swinney has also taught at Wilson High School, East Orange High School in East Orange, New Jersey; Hopkins Middle and St. Andrews Middle in Columbia, South Carolina; West Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina; Timmonsville High School in Timmonsville, South Carolina, and Hartsville High School in Hartsville, South Carolina. Dr. Swinney holds a BA degree from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC; a MA from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass; and a PhD from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Swinney is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Dr. Swinney was named Wilson High School’s 2011 Teacher of the Year and a Florence School District One’s Honor Roll Teacher in 2011.
