Teacher of the Year

Frances Parker

Teacher — Who Am I?

A teacher wears many hats and leads many roles.

Mom: giving love, security, and discipline all through the day

Entertainer: making learning fun

Nurse: applying Band-Aids for boo-boos and soothing nervous stomachs

Fireman: putting out the fires of disagreements

Magician: finding the magic in learning

I have been a teacher for 40 years spending half in private schools and the other half in public schools.  All of my years have been with kindergarten except one with first graders.  I call Carver my home but have prior experience at Delmae and Briggs. Working with children is all I ever considered, starting with my dolls and a chalk board and now with students and a SMART Board. My personal satisfaction comes from my students’ achievements.

I have been married for 45 years to Danny Parker, and he is the “silent partner” in my classroom.  He builds furniture, fixes materials, paints reindeer cans, and prepares me a delicious dinner at the end of my day.  We are proud parents of 3 adult children: Merritt, a Special Education teacher; Daniel, a YMCA Athletic Director; and Andrew, a Compliance Audit Manager.  We have one grandson, Sam.  My joys in life outside of family and Carver are reading, flowers, and the beach.  When frequently asked this question, “When are you going to retire?” I answer, “Why should I? I’m still having fun!”
